SUMMARY:Mizzou International Composers Festival
DESCRIPTION:New musical works by eight internationally acclaimed composers from four countries will be performed publicly for the first time in concert at the Missouri Theatre in Columbia on Saturday\, July 26 at 7:30 pm as part of the 2025 Mizzou International Composers Festival (MICF). Critically acclaimed new music ensemble Alarm Will Sound\, conducted by artistic director Alan Pierson\, will perform all eight compositions during this dynamic public concert presented by the Mizzou New Music Initiative. \n  \nThe concert will cap six days of musical workshops and public performances at the Sinquefield Music Center and the Missouri Theatre during the 16th annual MICF\, which will run from July 23 – 26. Each year the MICF attracts leading composers and performers from the world of contemporary classical music to the University of Missouri School of Music. This year\, eight Resident Composers were selected to participate from a pool of 612 applicants ages 19 – 44 representing 25 countries\, a 67 percent increase over the 2024 applicant pool. The eight Resident Composers include: \n  \n\nAmy Brandon (Prince Edward Island\, Canada)\nChris Thompson (Savannah\, GA)\nDaniel Reza Sabzghabaei (Denton\, TX)\nGeli Li (Guangzhou\, China)\nMatt Smith (San Diego\, CA)\nParker Callister (Ithaca\, NY)\nSeda Balci (Eskişehir\, Turkey)\nRobert Ge (Atlanta\, GA)\n\n  \nIn addition\, London-based Hilda Paredes of Mexico and Judd Greenstein of Massachusetts will serve as Distinguished Guest Composers. During the festival\, the Resident Composers will receive composition lessons from Parades and Greenstein and take part in rehearsals with Alarm Will Sound. The composers also will give public presentations of their music\, and after the premiere performances\, will receive professional live recordings of their new works.  Alarm Will Sound will serve as Resident Ensemble\, as it has since the MICF began in 2010. \n  \n“The growing popularity of our festival in the world of new music is driven by our desire to push the boundaries of creativity and explore the unknown\,” said Stefan Freund\, artistic director of MNMI. “From extended techniques to electronics and beyond\, we are exploring new ways to express music and work with composers at all stages of their creative lives. We are turning Missouri into a mecca of New Music.” \n  \nThe Festival is free and open to the public and will offer many opportunities to meet and speak with the Resident and Guest Composers.  A complete schedule of events\, times\, dates\, and venues for the 2025 MICF can be found at https://newmusic.missouri.edu/micf/festival-schedule. \n  \nMNMI is a diverse array of programs that position the University of Missouri School of Music as a leading center for the composition and performance of new music. The initiative is supported by the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation\, led by Dr. Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield. Their vision is to create an incubator for the composition and performance of new music and to showcase Missouri as a center for the music of tomorrow. \n

SUMMARY:CMFCAA Traveling Trunk Ribbon Cutting
DESCRIPTION:We would love for the public to join us from 11 a.m.-noon Tuesday\, July 29 at Veterans United (1400 Forum Blvd.\, Columbia\, MO) for a ribbon-cutting celebration. We’ll be joined by the Columbia Area Chamber of Commerce and Veterans United in celebrating our new Traveling Trunk. It’s CMFCAA’s brand-new mobile clothing-and-more store on wheels designed to bring free essentials directly to foster\, adoptive\, and kinship families across our 24-county region. \nThe Traveling Trunk was developed in direct response to a 2024 community needs assessment survey\, which revealed that many families could not travel to one of CMFCAA’s three brick-and-mortar Trunk locations in Osage Beach\, Jefferson City\, or Rolla. \n“At CMFCAA\, we believe that access to essential resources shouldn’t depend on where a family lives\,” said Jill Quaid\, CEO of CMFCAA. “The Traveling Trunk allows us to meet families where they are—literally—and ensures that no child goes without simply because of distance or circumstance.” \nFrom hygiene items and backpacks to gently used clothing\, The Traveling Trunk ensures that support is never out of reach—no matter where families live. The unit made its debut in Jefferson City and now continues its journey to meet families where they are\, removing transportation barriers and strengthening connections across Central Missouri.

SUMMARY:Grace Lutheran 50th Anniversary Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Grace Lutheran Congregation is celebrating their 50th Anniversary August 3rd\, of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus here in Columbia. We are excited to be able to talk to all of you and asking our community to come and celebrate with us. Our special theme is: I Love to Tell the Story. \nWith the thought of an old yet new joy to pass on this great gift of God’s love with everyone we know and meet. We have Pastor Loren Lucht coming to proclaim the message on August 3rd. He served our congregation from 1977 to 1983. A man of God with the joy of Jesus down in his heart. \nWe are hoping many will come to thank the Lord with us. As it is written\, rejoice in the Lord always\, I will say it again\, rejoice. What a joy! The service will be at 3:00 pm with a meal afterwards. **Please let us know if you are coming so we can properly prepare for you and everyone. \nIt’s really been fifty years! We started in 1975 out in the fields on the northeast part of Columbia\, where the Boone County Fairgrounds are\, with only an exit for Prathersville and now\, head north on 63. We are just off the Brown School/Oakland Gravel Road exit. You can’t miss it. 4540 N. Oakland Gravel Rd. \nWe pray you can come because we “love to tell the story of unseen things above\, of Jesus and His glory\, of Jesus and His love…” For you.
