We are focusing specifically on the lynchings of James Scott and George Bush. \nOur Boone County group is affiliated with the CRP of Missouri\, a group established by Missourians in partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) to raise public awareness\, facilitate education and work toward reconciliation in coordination with communities throughout the state regarding Missouri’s history of racial injustice. \nAN OUTRAGE is directed\, edited\, and produced by Hannah Ayers and Lance Warren\, the Emmy-nominated co-directors of Field Studio. They make films at the intersection of history and social justice. SUMMARY:Little Dixie Square Dancers Host Fun Night
DESCRIPTION:Come see what square dancing is all about! Make friends\, having fun dancing and socializing! August 23rd will be  a fun night to begin learning some square dance calls and making new friends! \n  \n   Little Dixie Squares the local Square Dance Club for Moberly is hosting a free Fun Night August 23 from 7-9 pm at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Moberly. This is a chance for people of all ages to come out and try ‘Missouri’s state dance”.  Lessons are open to anyone 10 years and over.   Fun Night is free\, after that lessons are $5.00 a person/night. If you can walk you can square dance!  We dance every other Saturday in Moberly\, but dances are held all over the country as well.  In our area alone\, dances are also held in Macon\, Jefferson City\, Brookfield\, Canton and Chillicothe. Out of state on vacation\, you can usually find somewhere to dance.  Fiddlers and live bands have given way to updated sound systems and recorded music. Dances are held in Air-conditioned rooms and not barns.  While most people think of square dancing to country music\, not so anymore. Besides old standards\, you may dance to music by Lady Gaga and others. \nLittle Dixie Squares were formed Sept 26\, 1970.  Though out its history\, Little Dixie squares has offered lots of fun to hundreds of folks from Randolph County as well as Chariton\, Monroe\, Boone\, Macon and other surrounding counties. Local resident\, James Burlage\, was a founding member of the club.  The club’s caller\, Leroy Conrad\, was voted Square Dance caller of the Year for the State of Missouri in 2000. This is an honor awarded to dedicated callers who have been actively calling for 20 years or more and have attended and called in a number of state festivals. Dallas and Nancy Wheeler as well as Mary Sue Darwent have held the honor of Missouri’s “Square Dancers of the year”.  Over the years the group has done exhibitions for nursing homes\, Railroad days\, and Relay for life.  As well as raising funds for local groups like Christos Center\, Safe Passage\, Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch\, and Primrose Hill.  So come on by and enjoy a fun evening!
