LANDING AFTER HOURS: These Honored Dead; Jefferson City National Cemetery
May 7 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
Joining forces in their second book, Nancy Arnold Thompson and Michelle Brooks combine their talents of genealogy and storytelling to bring to life the individuals buried under the uniform white markers at the Jefferson City National Cemetery.
In These Honored Dead, readers will learn about hundreds of men and women who served their country from the Mexican-American War through the Global War on Terror as soldiers, sailors, nurses, airmen and marines.
More than 1,200 servicemen are buried in the eastern one-quarter of the 1000-block of East McCarty Street, which shares a matching outer wall of limestone and wrought iron with the Woodland-Old City Cemetery next door. One of the smallest remaining national cemeteries, it holds generations of local history as well as preserving sacrifices of those far from home.
