The Civil War was not a distant battleground for Missourians. Citizens experienced martial law, loyalty oaths, military districting, and gorilla warfare firsthand. Joe Amsden, interpretive aide at the Missouri State Museum, takes a look into military operations and civilian tensions throughout Missouri during the war.
The Missouri State Museum’s “Landing After Hours” program, is held the first Wednesday of each month at the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site,100 Jefferson Street. Doors open at 6:30 and the program starts at 7 p.m. Convenient parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building.
