Jack Schnieders Recognition and Retirement of Crusader Football Jerseys
October 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm

Helias Catholic High School will look back to the beginning years of Crusader football, honoring the legacy of four Crusaders instrumental in the program’s early success during a halftime celebration Friday, Oct. 21.
Jack Schnieders led the Crusader football program from 1956-1965 as the school’s first ever football coach. Alongside Assistant Coach Jim Rackers, Coach Schnieders took the Crusaders from an initial 1-8 season to a stunning 32-game winning streak from 1957-1960. Jack Schnieders was named National Prep Football Coach of the Year in 1960, and his teams went 70-19-1 over his 10 seasons as coach.
Three standout players in those early days helped lead the Crusaders to victory. To recognize their contributions to building Helias Catholic football into what it is today, George Heisler, Leon DeLassus and Tom Bacon will have their jersey numbers retired following the 2022 season.
The Helias Catholic community will recognize Jack Schnieders, George Heisler, Leon DeLassus, Tom Bacon and the 1956-1961 Crusader football teams during halftime of the Crusaders’ varsity football game vs. St. John Vianney High School, which begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Ray Hentges Stadium in the Crusader Athletic Complex.
