First Baptist Church welcomes musical group The Many
February 25 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
First Baptist Church – Columbia welcomes musical group The Many on February 25th and 26th for a free community concert and worship service. The Many makes music to help give voice to faith and doubt, questions and fears, laments and longings, music that speaks to a non-violent God, who is with us and for us.
The Many will perform Saturday, February 25, at 5pm in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary, 1112 E. Broadway, Columbia. The ensemble will also provide music and lead worship at 11:15am on Sunday, February 26 at the church. Both events are free to attend and open to the public.
Drawing on indie pop and gospel influences, The Many is an intentionally diverse group of musicians committed to honest expressions of faith, peacemaking, economic and racial justice, and LGBTQ+ inclusion. The group includes Hannah Rand, Christa Sangster Monroe, Darren Calhoun, Jonathan Ulanday, Kristina Sinks and Gary Rand. They are the house band of the Plural Guild which came together to create music, poems, prayer, visual art, liturgy, experiences and community that embrace questions and doubts, as well as faith.
“Through their intentionally diverse group of musicians and their dedication to reconciliation, peacemaking, and inclusion, The Many creates music that works to resist the divisions so common in our world today. We’re excited to have them as part of our 200th anniversary celebration,” says First Baptist Senior Pastor, Carol McEntyre.
This concert and special worship service are two of several events First Baptist has planned in celebration of its 200th anniversary. Other events include a weekend with church historian and progressive Christian thinker Diana Butler Bass (April 15-16, 2023) and a weekend with Jemar Tisby (October 21-22, 2023), author of How to Fight Racism: Courageous Christianity and the Journey Toward Racial Justice.
