First Baptist Church welcomes historian and progressive Christian thinker Diana Butler Bass

America’s most trusted commentators on where faith intersects with politics and culture as well as many other topics of religion and contemporary spirituality.

 

Diana Butler Bass will give a lecture Saturday, June 17th, at 2:00 pm in the First Baptist Church sanctuary, 1112 E. Broadway, Columbia. There will be a Q & A Sunday, June 18th, at 10:15 am followed by a sermon from the author at the 11:15 am worship service. Both events are free to attend and open to the public.

 

Passionate about helping readers see themselves, their place in history and God differently,

she has written eleven books and provided commentary on a wide range of topics from

spiritual trends and challenging conventional narratives about religious practice to navigating social media with spiritual wisdom and smart theology. Her work has inspired millions and received numerous awards including two Wilbur Awards for best nonfiction book of the year. She’s also garnered awards from Religion News Association for individual commentary and Book of the Year.

This event is one of several First Baptist has planned in celebration of its 200th anniversary. Other events include a weekend with Jemar Tisby (October 14-15, 2023), author of How to Fight Racism: Courageous Christianity and the Journey Toward Racial Justice.
